Arthur served as a soldier with the Gloucestershire Regiment. He enlisted 30th December 1914 in Stroud but was Honourably Discharged 2nd August 1916 after being injured while on active service.
When he married Gladys he was a Commercial Traveller but for many years after they ran Grocers shops The first was in Minchinhampton High Street during the early 1930's. During WW2 Arthur worked in an aircraft related capacity at Aston Down airfield and then after had another Grocers shop in Middle Street, Stroud until they retired.
Arthur died after a long illness in the old Gloucester Royal Infirmary. Gladys died just two months later of a broken heart.
